J Foster Architects created a contemporary, west-facing roof terrace. A dilapidated pitched roof above a rear brick outrigger was converted using high quality materials on a modest budget. The architect's approach was an example of guerrilla space-making, to utilise and beautify the crumbling Victorian terraces that typify this part of London. A Mosa tiled floor floats amidst the tree canopy, edged by an 1.1m high balustrade which appears as a diaphanous haze reflecting the play of the evening sun through the trees. Towering at 3 storeys above the garden, a head for heights is required.
