Highbury Hill House

Start: 2021 Gross area: 30 sqm

Services: Feasibility, Permitted Development

Structural Engineer: Constant

J Foster Architects was appointed to create a garden room (outbuilding) behind a Victorian townhouse in Highbury, Islington. The proposal is an elegant outbuilding clad in timber which will create a 30sqm internal space with stunning views onto the private rear garden.

An inner skin is formed of PPC composite framed DGU units. A secondary skin is formed of a timber superframe. A tertiary skin is formed of vertical timber battens to provide shading and privacy. The roof is planted with intensive green roofing to soften the outbuilding’s appearance within the mature garden setting. This could include sedum and/or plug plants. Frameless glazed rooflights provide toplight to the internal space.
